Located in Medellín, Colombia,the Colégio Mayor de Antioquia was founded in 1946. It was first established asa university for women, who at the time were generally discouraged from seekingan education.
The university has fourfaculties: the School of Architecture and Engineering, the Faculty ofAdministration, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of SocialSciences, as well as a number of postgraduate degree programs.
Medellín is the second-largestcity in Colombia, with a population of 2.5 million. It was chosen by the UrbanLand Institute as the most innovative city in the world in February 2013 due toits recent advances in education, politics, and social development. The city isone of Colombia’s economic centers, with the Metropolitan Area of Medellíncontributing 11 percent of the GDP of Colombia. Medellín created the firstColombian business cluster, and is the top exporting region of the country,with 1,750 export businesses based in the city.
