Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is a historically black university located in Tallahassee, Florida. Home to over 10,000 students, the university offers 54 undergraduate degrees and 29 master’s degrees across a dozen schools and colleges. The most prominent of these are the schools of engineering, law, and pharmaceutical sciences.
The average incoming first-year student at Florida A&M University has a GPA average of 3.5 and an average SAT score of 1111. Over 80 percent of the university’s students identify as African-American, while less than one percent of the students are classified as international. All first-years are required to live on campus unless their families live within 35 miles of campus. Exceptions are made for mature students, married students and students with dependents (e.g. children).
Part of the Florida A&M University campus is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places. As well as several research centers, the campus is also home to university libraries which hold a combined total of nearly two million volumes. When not studying, students can participate in over 100 student organizations, including gospel choir, marching band and student media outlets.
