Founded in 1949, a few years after the end of the Second World War, Kochi University is located in the Japanese city of Kōchi. It consists of the following academic departments:

The city of Kōchi is in southern Japan and is home to approximately 332,000 people. The city is most famous for katsuo tataki, a local dish consisting of seared and seasoned tuna. Nearly half of the city was destroyed by bombing in the Second World War, although Kōchi castle - originally built in the 1600s - continues to stand today and is worth a visit. Every August, the city hosts the Yosakoi festival, featuring thousands of dancers and performances of both traditional and modern songs.
