Ulyanovsk State University was founded in 1988 as a branch of Moscow State University, the highest Russian educational institution, one of the most reputable universities in the world. In 1995, the branch of MSU in Ulyanovsk was transformed into Ulyanovsk State University. Ulyanovsk State University unites 8 independent faculties of higher education, 4 institutes and 4 subdivisions of secondary vocational education.The university is rightly proud of its human resources. Today, 834 teachers (565 full-time), including 123 doctors of science (105 full-time) and 442 candidates of science (342 full-time) work at UlSU. The university professors include world-famous scientists, members of Russian and international academies of science, honored scientists of the Russian Federation.More than 2000 is the total number of scientific publications in 2018, of which 1383 are published in the Russian Science Citation Index; 127 articles in foreign journals indexed by the Web of Science; 149 articles in foreign journals indexed by Scopus; 57 monographs.Ulyanovsk State University considers international cooperation one of its main priorities. The Russian-German and Russian-American faculties that are part of the Institute of International Relations implement joint academic programs and allow ULSU students to undergo training and internships in Germany and the United States with obtaining relevant diplomas and certificates; In accordance with the signed cooperation agreements with foreign universities-partners, USU is collaborating with the United States, Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Brazil, Poland, Finland, China, the Republic of Korea, India, and Japan. In accordance with the signed cooperation agreements, USU is working with universities in the near abroad: universities of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan. In 2018, UlSU entered into cooperation agreements with five universities in the near and far abroad — Wesleyan College (USA), Shanxi Medical University (China), the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek, Samarkand State University, Kokand State Pedagogical Institute (Uzbekistan).
