Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso (The Federal University of Mato Grosso), ( UFMT ) is located in Cuiaba ( campus - based ) and in four other cities - Rondonopolis ( South ) , Barra do Garças and Araguaia Pontal (East ) , Sinop (North) . They are under construction the campus of Varzea Grande , a city adjoining the capital, and Unit II of the Campus Cuiabá. Established in 1970 , UFMT is the most comprehensive institution of higher education in the state, with a strong presence in all regions of Mato Grosso , a higher territory to 900 thousand square kilometers. In addition to the campuses , UFMT is present in 24 centers of distance education, has a research base in the Pantanal and experimental farms in Santo Antonio do Leverger (30 km from Cuiabá) and Sinop, two veterinary hospitals and the University Hospital Júlio Müller one hundred percent SUS.
