Daugavpils University was founded in 1921 and today is the biggest regional state university and the only university in Eastern Latvia. DU offers to achieve knowledge in 5 faculties and 53 study programmes. Main research disciplines of DU scientists are Literary Science, Linguistics, History, Biology, Environmental sciences, Physics, Economy, Sociology, Psychology, Education and Art. Knowledge-based society forms a socioeconomic environment of Latvia and Daugavpils, and university must be a core promoter of the development. Both academic personnel and students should be keen for new knowledge, work hard for research, as well as to discover and actively pass on the acquired cognitions and results to the society.
Daugavpils University (DU) was founded in 1921 as Teachers’ seminary. In October 13th, 2001, Daugavpils University received its present name. Daugavpils University has become the biggest state educational institution in Eastern Latvia, which offers to achieve higher education of all scientific grades, acceptable in Europe and all over the world.
Five faculties in Daugavpils University - Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Faculty of Music and Arts and Faculty of Education and Management - are represented by 53 study programmes that train biologists, programming engineers, physicists, intercultural relations managers, institutional managers, economists, psychologists, artists, linguists, interpreters, career consultants and other specialists.
All programmes, realized in Daugavpils University, are licensed and accredited that guarantees their state, European and worldwide approval. Daugavpils university diploma has been certified by European Commission.
