In France, the PhD program is open to holders of a Master Degree, after they have been admitted to a graduate school (PhD school) in charge of the PhD program. The PhD is obtained after three years of research, following a doctoral thesis on the realization of original scientific research. The 400 theses currently defended at Université de Lorraine account for approximately 5% of the PhD degrees delivered in France. 1 800 doctoral students are currently working on their theses in 61 different research laboratories. Close to half of our doctoral students come to us internationally, representing 80 different nationalities, and 11% of the theses are supervised in collaboration with a foreign university. Université de Lorraine offers a wide range of PhD degree specialties, from engineering sciences to theology. There are eight PhD schools.
