Staffordshire University
About
Staffordshire University has come a long way since its origins as a location for mining classes, but it remains distinctly proud of its roots. Mostly based in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford, the institution gained university status in 1992. Smaller campuses also exist in nearby Lichfield, Shrewsbury, Telford and Oswestry.
The university offers guaranteed accommodation to all first-year students, provided they listed Staffordshire University as their first-choice institution via UCAS. The process for securing accommodation differs for applicants from outside the UCAS system. While the majority of accommodation is on campus, there are also several off-campus student houses and halls. All of these are within 2km of the Stoke campus and are intended for postgraduate and second/third-year students.
Given the university’s historical connection to mining, it’s no surprise that it’s considered a particularly strong institution for sciences. The university was also the first to introduce a single honors degree in film, television & radio studies.
Notable alumni of the university include comedian Dave Gorman, professional footballer Fabrice Muamba, members of the rock band Editors and former Labour politician Mike O’Brien.
